monolog with boris charmatz | or | remake of les disparates

Les Disparates was choreographed in 1994 by Boris Charmatz and Dimitri Chamblas to be performed in theatre space by one performer next to the sculpture of Toni Grand. In 1999 Boris Charmatz and Cesar Vayssie shot the film “Les Disparates” based on the choreography from 1994.
In 2018 Boris Charmatz was so kind to allow me to make again a stage version based on the film from 1999. He said "Just make sure its clear that this is your work based on mine" → This is my doing, inspired by theirs.

I was working with the reinterpretation, of cuts, camera-angle changes, scenery changes etc. and included this in my choreographic choices. To represent the cuts of the movie and be most accurate with its feeling changing scenery, I give verbal cues to the audience. “Open” stands for in front of camera "close" for behind. The audience can choose for themselves if or if not they want to close there eyes according to my indications.
The different sceneries of the movie are represented by different spaces in the theatre marked with wood on the ground.

This work was part of my graduation exams at SEAD.
Thank you Bobo it was much fun!

I don’ t understand much of “Les Disparates”
And that is exactly the point that intrigued me very much and still does.
I don’ t need nor want any explanation.
I get so much out of it while in the same time I don’t.
I wanted to recreate the feeling the film leafs me with.
A mix of absurdity, humour, lightness, precision, clever timings and my brain trying to figure
out the logic behind what I just saw.
